Hi everybody, this is my first post, and if anybody can help it out it should be here! I Have an 89 Mustang gt, and i am trying to put a cd player in, but i need to know how to bypass the factory amp, so the factory speakers will work. Any help is appreciated, thanks

Sorry, I have no idea how to accomplish this, but I wish I did. My car has a factory amp for the radio. I still wanted to use the factory speakers, too. I ended up just running new speaker wire to all the cabin speakers and wiring them directly to the new H.U.
Plus it also improves the sound quality.

Are you sure that the factory amp isn't in the factory HU? If it isn't, then where is it?

Sometimes manufacturers use a low voltage headunit and send the signal to an external amplifier. Usually used on Premium sound systems. This allows for more quality reproduction of sound instead of just 2 or 3 small Integrated Circuits (IC's) in the H.U.

Anyone know how to do this???
My factory head-unit had 5 speaker wires going out from it and there are 6 speaker locations. Don't know if this helps...

haha, rookies...
here's how to bypass in an '89
if you reach up right behind the right side of the center console ( like you were going towards the back of the radio ), VOILA!! two harness that are "post" amp...
BEWARE though... MOST of the times the front negative wires are on the harness backwards, take a AA battery and "pop" the speaker leads with this to confirm that they are or arent ( this of course assumes you are going to "do it right" and use the proper wire harness ).... and also... the door speakers ( if they are there now ) are not on this harness either.. just drag wires to behind the kick panel, you'll see a 2 wire grey plug, those are the door speaker wires ( test first of course )
email me if you want more in-depth, and good luck!!
