| Step 1 : Amp, speakers, main power and *test* RCA input. | ||||
| Step 1 | ||||
| The first step is to see if the noise is coming from the source unit or not. We are going to use our body as a signal and remove the radio's signal, as well as its remote turn on, as a possiblity. | |||

Disconnect the RCAs from the inputs of the amp (if more than one, disconnect the input from the mid/high amp, *AND* disconnect the power from the others). Also, disconnect the remote wire at the amp and create a small jumper wire to connect main power at the amp to remote turn on at the amp.
Now, use either an RCA shorting plug, or a known good test RCA plugged directly into the inputs of the amp, then press your thumb against the center pin of the RCA [thumb test] going into the amp; you should hear a slight buzz, this is AC being picked up by your body, above that, do you have engine noise? | |||
