My system

Here's my stereo, unfortunately I don't have a car yet so this is how it's set up right now. It's powered by a cheap deep cycle battery, you can see it being charged in one of the pictures. I gutted an old and broken Kenwood home CD player, it made a perfect enclosure for the head unit and amp.
  • Focal 165A1 Component Speaker Set 6.5"
  • Focal 25A1 Component Subwoofer 10"
  • Eclipse CD5100 Head Unit
  • Alpine MRV-F450 5-channel Amplifier Class A/B
  • Knukonceptz Karma SS cables
Let me know what you guys think!

Yeah it's working great, it's right next to my computer desk so I've hooked it up for movies when I had friends over. I even took it to a friends party once where I had it playing close to full volume for about 2 hours, and it stayed above 12v the entire time on that battery!

Tamnakz can only hope to improve

Looks nice!

I've got a 70amp 13v Astron power supply for my ham radio, I've debated using that to hook up some extras along with the home system. Another option, computer power supplies. They can be had decently cheap, and are pretty efficient.

bare wires, a car battery and prefab enclosures....?????

you have decent equipment but you are wasting its potential.

That 70 amp power supply you have would work well I bet, if this was a permanent install i'd save up and get one. Computer power supplies were one of the sources I was considering, except you have to pay quite a bit to get one with enough amps on the 12v rail(s). I've considered all of my options and the battery I got was the cheapest option to provide clean, high amperage power. You should try out a setup like this, it was a fun project that turned out pretty nice!

Bare wires? It's all insulated if that's what you're talking about...
Yeah a car battery isn't ideal but i suppose it will work since it's a temporary install, I'm just going to sell the battery locally once I get a car to install this stuff in.
The enclosures for the component speakers seem a little cheap but they sound nice at least. At the time I thought that as long as it was the right type and volume as the manual recommended then it would be good, but I guess there's more to it as it doesn't go quite as low or loud as I expect-the clarity is there at least.

i saw a fused wire twisted together to another with nothing covering the bare wire.

Oh I see it now, I didn't have everything set up in that picture. Those are the positive wires from the head unit that are connected with the positive connector on the amp with the main power wire from the battery.
