Bandpass box: The benefits in plain English

I know a bandpass box is pretty much a type of ported box but more efficient, can anyone tell me anything else?

They are hard to tune by the ear, because it is hard to hear the distortion through the plexiglass.

A real bandpass enclosure doesn't HAVE to have plexiglass. Bandpass allows you to tune in a "pass band", sort of a natural crossover so to speak. Then you can tune it also to be flat or peak wickedly within that same band. If you go for a flat response with little gain, bandpass sounds very good. If you go for a large gain/peak, well then bandpass just sounds a LOT!

The best advantage I can see for bandpass is in a coupe. You can port ALL the output through the rear deck and then not worry about trunk rattling or "which direction to face". That's why I did one that way. Besides, the car haf leather seats, and the output from a normal box would've sucked. I liken it to putting your hand over your mouth and trying to scream.
