Just installed a sony xr-c5100 10 disc player into a peugeot 206 but found the rear speakers no longer work and it also doesnt store the stations & clock when the power has been turned off.

Anybody know the reasons or even better the solution any help much appreciated

caddymac will become famous soon enough

Sounds like either the harness is not plugged in fully or some of the wires have been shorted. Did you check all of the radio fuses?

Some headunits are just screwy.... my pioneer had a similar "problem" (design flaw?) as did my friend's. Apparently if one speaker isn't connected, the HU cuts off power to all the speakers.

Examples:

1.) I amped my front speakers so the front speaker wires from the HU weren't connect to anything. Result: no power to any of the speakers. Solution: After many tries at fixing it, I just amped the rears and problem "solved" (avoided).

2.) My friend hooked up some new speakers up front. The left speaker had a loose connection. Result: no power to any of the 4 speakers. Solution: Tightened the connection and all four speakers are back up.

Conclusion: I hate head units. You may have to mess around with your wiring for quite some time. It'd be more worthwile to get an amp than to take it to a pro too.

that would point me in the direction of the constant 12v

It sounds as if the memory wire to the HU doesn't have constant 12v when the ignition is off. I would guess the speaker problem to have something to do with the wiring too.

If the rears have stopped working, there may be a factory amplifier in the system somewhere. In that case, you'll have to either power it up with the remote wire on the Sony harness, or run new wires to the rear speakers. If the deck is not retaining memory, you'll need to find a constant 12V wire to work with.
