Dual Voice Coil

I just looked at the info that came with my new Image Dynamics IDQ10 V-2 D2 and it said that both voice coils must be used at all times. Can anyone explain to me exactly what this means.

this isn't really true, but there are implications to using only 1 coil.

basically, there are 2 voice coils in a DVC speaker. this allows for more wiring options, and 2 4ohmDVC woofers will work well with most of the amplifers made today. 2 4ohmDVC woofers allow for a single 4ohm load (for a 2channel amp) or a single 1ohm load (for a class D monoblock).

when using only 1 coil, you reduce thermal power handeling capability, which leads to damaged speakers.
