Quick question about wires

Ok so the situation is I've got a HiFonics BX1500D (sub is an XXX wired at roughly 1.2 ohm) and I purchased a 4 gauge amp kit. Can I get away with 4awg? If not, what would happen if I just bought some el-cheapo 2 gauge welding cable and shoved it in the 4 gauge ring terminals. Would that be helpful or would it just be a waste of money? Also, the amp's power/ground connections only take up to 4 gauge themselves. Maybe I'm missing something but isn't going larger than 4 gauge useless then since all the extra strands of a 2 gauge wire wouldn't fit into the power connection of my amp?

I would run 2 gauge, or even 1/0 from the battery back to a distro. block in the trunk near the amp, and then a very short run of 4 gauge to the amp.

You've got 4gauge wire, that's what the brutus takes at it's terminals... I don't see the problem here..

If you want to spend money for 0ga to a dblock so that you can easily add a second amp in the future that's great, but...

Run should be 15 feet or so, maybe a bit less, maybe a bit more. I was also thinking that in addition to the 4awg terminals on the BX1500D, the Brutus has 120 amps worth of fuses. 4 gauge wire's maximum recommended fuse size according to the eatel.net website is 125 amps. So, if the amp is looking to pull about 120 amps at most on average, shouldn't 4 gauge be okay since it can handle a fuse that allows up to 125 amps of current to flow through it? I don't know if my logic is totally flawed or not and if I'm just rationalizing my purchase of my 4 gauge amp kit. Hopefully neither . I'd rather not spend anymore money if I can help it. I know it's a bad thing to limit yourself because of a few bucks but the XXX, BX1500D and my ported box have stretched my finances paper thin.

to tel the truth, i think that you will be just fine with 4 gauge...but i think that going with 2 gauge would be much better for you

I've only seen Hifonic amps once at a ghetto *** car stereo store. my question is: are they any good? And if so, why aren't they as known mainstream? Are they expensive too?

your not gonna be drawing 120 amps every minute you use it, i bet it'll draw half that on a regular basis,, definately not constant 120 amps. you should be fine, although it'd be easier to just run 0 ga now, and if you add in tha future you just have to wire from your distro
