Question Strange Bass Problem

Ok, so before I get into specifics of what amp and speakers I have and all that Ill explain what is happening to me.

When I am listening to my music at a high volume everything is fine.. but when I put the volume down to where I can talk to people and hear the road.. randomly.. my bass and only bass will kick in to a extremely high level.. higher than if I were to just put the volume up high. The only solution to this that I have found is to put the volume back up high and the bass equals out then I can lower it again for a undetermined period of time.

Its becoming more and more annoying and I have no idea whether the problem is in my head unit or my amp or wiring.

Any help would be much appreciated thank you

Sounds like faulty equipment or wiring. What equipment?
