Help on amp/subwoofer
im going to be getting myself a audio system for my ride and wanted to know what setup could i do to get the most bass/thump possible.i have about $700 to spend on this system, i have something in mind but wanted to see what you guys/gals thought.this is what i had in mind, one JL 10W7 with a JL 500/1 v2 amp.i just want something that will sets car alarms off, you know deep hard bass.i heard that the kicker l7 was pretty good but not really sure. a single kicker l7 15" is $279 compared to JL 10W7 at $332. i know that the JL is a 10" and the l7 is a 15" but size really dont matter as i seen two 8" smash two 12" befor, its all about the brand and we all know that JL is top of the line.i really like the 10W7 and the 500/1 v2 combo and really just want to know if that setup will knock HARD? so any suggestions or comments are welcome, thanks.

Here is how I would spend my money...
(1) FI BL12, dual 2 ohm option.............$275 (1) Audioque AQ1200D.........................$250 Use the rest of the cash to have a custom ported enclosure built... that is 1200 watts to a sub that will love it. I listened to a pair of FI BL's this past weekend on a Memphis 2500D and all I can say is WOW! |

i dont think you'll be setting off car alarms with a single 10" on 500 rms. even if it is a top of the line brand like jl

i know the amp is good, becuz my friend had two RE 12's with the JL 500/1 and it was setting alarms off.im just wondering if the one 10w7 will hit as hard as his two RE 12's.they wasent top of the line RE's something like 600w-300rms a peice, and the one 10w7 is 1500w-750rms so if anything the 10w7 sould hit as hard if not harder right?
edit-the reason im going JL on the amp is becuz i live in florida and heat is an issue ive been throw alot i mean ALOT of amps that cut off do to the heat(sony, kenwood, poweracoustik,JBL,bazooka, alpine , and more...)JL and audiobahn is the only ones that can hold up, in my experience with amps. Dude, I live in Florida and have been involved with car audio for 15 years... there are plenty of amps that work as good if not better than JL amplifiers. I am willing to bet a dollar to a doughnut that the installation is the problem with your past amps more than the equipment. Power Acoustics, Kenwood, Sony, Bazooka amps are garbage, but its not like we live in Death Valley... the heat isn't killing them.
JL amps and subs are fine, they are NOT top of the line! There are much better products out there, especially for the money. |

as they say, you get what you pay for.you buy cheap subs/amps you get garbage results. i see that you recommended a sub and amp but ive never heard of them, are they any good?(FI BL12, dual 2 ohm option-Audioque AQ1200D) Last edited by James84; 12-14-2010 at 02:42 PM. |

A 10" sub getting 500 watts or a 15" sub getting 1000 watts.... if they are in proper ported enclosures, the Kicker combo will be louder.... the JL will be cleaner.

ok thx. would that combo kicker need to be ported or closed?cuz in my experience closed boxes hit harder IMO but im not the pro here so plz let me know. oh and would the kicker combo set off car alarms? im mean knock doors off, lol.and how much harder would the kicker hit than the JL 5-10% harder or 20-30% harder becuz if its only like 5% harder than ill go with JL.ill save some space, lol.
