my tweeters are drivin' me crazy!!

aight so i have some polk momo "competition series" components. i installed them into the stock locations in my truck. and the tweeters are driving me crazy, when i turn the speakers up i get this outrageous high pitched screeching, like the high's are just WAY too loud.

i'm thinking this is because of the mounting location? would it help if i mounted them higher? like towards my dash.

does anyone know if that would help or does anyone have any other suggestions to fix this?

Is the screeching part of the music played at too loud a level in relation to the mids, is it distortion like from a clipped signal, or is it truly a screech like you'd get with a grounded speaker terminal? More info is needed.

Try lowering the tweeter output by attenuating at the crossover.

no the speakers aren't clipping or distorting. it's not really a screech, it's more part of the song like the highs are turned up past a level my deck even has.

attenuating at the crossover? that sounds like what i should do, but what the hell does that mean?

1st things 1st- are these your speakers the older MM6 or the later MM6500 speakers?

In either case, there should be a switch on the passive crossovers for bumping or reducing tweeter output. You can also try reversing phase on your tweeters (swapping positive and negative leads on each tweeter at the crossover) and see if their output better blends with the mids that way.

Both of those Momo models predate the DEI buyout .

Good luck.
