i am in over my head arnt i

trying to design a box 15cube 36Hz walled off just behind the front seats. the subs weigh over 80lbs each 73 pounds of magnet each. the 18" baskets will need to be braced if mounting vertical wont they?

Are you saying you can't figure out how to brace them? It's not that difficult to figure out or to do...

i have plenty of threaded rod and wood for the box but i have never had to suport the motor on a sub before maybe it wont be all that critical is that the case?

i would brace those puppies just for safety/reliablity reasons .how thick is the wood you will be using? you might want to brace the walls too. and use two layers of mdf for the box at least the side you will be mounting them.

go overboard with bracing. as long as its built properly and you retain proper cu.ft., it cant hurt. is there no way to mount subs at a differnet angle? such as a 45degree or even horizontally? to have gravity on ur side. it wuld make the box easier. however i think youll do fine making a box how you originally planned. measure twice, cut once. goodluck

Do you know the diameter of the magnet of the subs that you are thinking of using?

If you are walling it off, just run a 2X4 right under where the magnets will sit. No big deal at all. When I built Brahma boxes i would just measure a chunk of 3/4 MDF and run it straight across the bottom of the box so the motors rested on them. But honestly, even with 50 pound drivers like the Brahmas, I have run them unsupported and inverted for years with no problems.

the 2X4 idea is what we've used, except not with a 2X4...

I 've used a 2X8 & cut out a half cirles the size of the magnets so that the magnets sit solid inside the halfe circles.
