Since I'm not sure how to even search for this using words over 3 letters....

how about a short blurb on whether, eg,

2 10" w/ 300W each
or
1 10" w/ 600W

is louder? i've found some conflicting info out there

thx

Well i asume that with louder you are talking about the soundpressure?

First and for all that depends of the specs the subs have!
You have to look at the sensitivity they have:

10" - 300W - 92dB/w/m
10" - 600W - 92dB/w/m

if you would take a look at the specs of the above subs you would see that they both have the same sensitivity and produce 92dB/w/m...

If in this case you would take 2subs of 300w and compare the performance to a single 600W you would find that the 2subs together are much better, you would have a gain of 100%(what doesnt mean your soundlevel rises doubles, cuz that works logaritmic...but it will be higher)

And its normal because your moving surface is double that of a single sub, with the same sensitivity!

There are cases where a single sub will performe better but then its sensitivity should be higher and with that, the max movement of the speakercone higher... what would give a chance to more distortion...

So overall with two subs you can achieve more soundpressure then with a single one(same diameter, same sensitivity) wich would have the same powerhandling as both added up...

Hope this helps!
