Excuse my ignorance please. Maybe this was in the FAQ and I missed it.

I used to have a pair of MTX 12" subs being pushed by some RFa2 amp. The MTXs were before the Thunder series came out. They worked extremely well for hardcore/metal, and still put out a ton of bass if I listened to rap music

This was several years ago, and I've since gotten rid of those. I'm wanting to start over again but I don't really remember any of this stuff.

I'm eyeballing a pair of Thunder5500 which are a 4ohm load 300w RMS. The amp I'm looking at is the Phoenix Gold Octane-R 5.0:1 which I'm now thinking would probably hurt the subs since it's only 300x1 @2ohm

But I was looking at one of the wiring links you had and it looked like 2 dual 4ohm subs bridged would make 1ohm. So should I find a 1ohm stable amp? It seems like running in 4ohms delivers substantially less power.

And it seems like when I look at an amp that says 600watts it actually only puts out like 200 to a channel. I'm really confused about all of this.

What would be an example of the setup for these subs above? I don't want comp, I just want to be able to listen to my hardcore w/good bass. I think that if I could see how this setup would work, I would be able to better find what subs/amp I should get.

are you getting dual voice coil subs or single voice coil subs.this will determine what ohm load your amp is capable of.

They are singles.

get a mono amp and you can wire both subs to a 2 ohm load.Wire it in parallel.whast your budget for an amp.You could get a 2 channel amp and wire each sub to a 4 ohm load, but i would get a class d mono,IMO.

I was looking at a MTX MXA6001 600w which is a D-class. However, I was looking at a remanufactured one because I don't have 400 to spend on an amp right now, and the MTX outlet has them for 120. I'm not against buying some used gear either if the person is reputable.

this would work really nicley with your 2 mtx subs.700 rms at 2 ohms.http://cgi.ebay.com/HIFONICS-TX1005D-CLASS-D-MONO-AMPLIFIER-1000-WATTS-NEW_W0QQitemZ5833642911QQcategoryZ18797QQssPageNam eZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
