Excuse my ignorance please. Maybe this was in the FAQ and I missed it.
I used to have a pair of MTX 12" subs being pushed by some RFa2 amp. The MTXs were before the Thunder series came out. They worked extremely well for hardcore/metal, and still put out a ton of bass if I listened to rap music
This was several years ago, and I've since gotten rid of those. I'm wanting to start over again but I don't really remember any of this stuff.
I'm eyeballing a pair of Thunder5500 which are a 4ohm load 300w RMS. The amp I'm looking at is the Phoenix Gold Octane-R 5.0:1 which I'm now thinking would probably hurt the subs since it's only 300x1 @2ohm
But I was looking at one of the wiring links you had and it looked like 2 dual 4ohm subs bridged would make 1ohm. So should I find a 1ohm stable amp? It seems like running in 4ohms delivers substantially less power.
And it seems like when I look at an amp that says 600watts it actually only puts out like 200 to a channel. I'm really confused about all of this.
What would be an example of the setup for these subs above? I don't want comp, I just want to be able to listen to my hardcore w/good bass. I think that if I could see how this setup would work, I would be able to better find what subs/amp I should get.
